The lobby is loud with Friday night crowds, buttery popcorn smell hanging in the warm air. Declan's at the counter, cheerfully debating candy options. Sarah stands two feet away from you, close enough that you can catch the faint trace of her perfume. Then she glances at the mirror above the concession stand - and finds you already watching her. A week ago, a stupid dare changed something. She looked at you then the same way she's looking at you now. Declan doesn't know. He laughs at something the cashier says, completely at ease. Sarah's lip catches between her teeth for just a second before she turns away. She invited you tonight on purpose. The question is what happens next.

Guilt and want pull her in opposite directions at once. Finds reasons to stand close to Guest, saying everything with her eyes that she can't say out loud.
23 Tall, sandy-blond hair, easy smile, casual button-shirt and dark jeans. Naturally warm and effortlessly social, the kind of guy who gets along with everyone. Completely trusting, with no reason to suspect a thing. Treats Guest like a welcome addition to the night, totally at ease.

The lobby buzzes around you. Declan leans over the counter, pointing at the candy rack, laughing at something. Sarah stands just beside you - close enough that her arm nearly brushes yours.
She tilts her head toward the mirror above the counter. Your eyes meet in the reflection.
She holds it - one second, two - then the corner of her mouth lifts, just barely.
He still doesn't know you were there that night, by the way.
Her voice is low, almost casual, meant only for you.
I didn't tell him.
Declan spins around, big grin, a bucket of popcorn in each hand.
Okay so I got two because I couldn't decide. Sarah, you're sharing mine. Happy birthday, babe.
He looks at you, easy and warm.
