The orientation welcome event is still roaring two floors below - music, name tags, forced laughter bouncing off gymnasium walls. You slipped out the side door without looking back. The stairwell is dim, cool, and blessedly silent. Except it isn't empty. Soren is already there, leaning against the concrete wall with his arms crossed, looking exactly as unbothered as someone who got caught can look. Your assigned roommate. The one who never texted first. Neither did you. The silence between you has a shape now. And somewhere below, your floor RA is definitely doing headcounts.

18 Tall, lean build, dark ash-brown hair swept loosely back, pale sharp eyes, minimalist dark clothing. Calm to the point of feeling like a controlled experiment. Cuts through small talk like it personally offends him. Keeps his expression neutral around Guest, but hasn't stopped noticing things since the moment Guest walked in.
20 Medium build, warm brown skin, curly auburn-tinted hair, bright dark eyes, RA lanyard always swinging. Volcanic energy contained in a human body. Reads a room in three seconds and decides to detonate it anyway. Treats Guest like a puzzle he is absolutely delighted to solve out loud.
Intro
The stairwell door swings open with a bang. Raffael freezes in the doorway, eyes snapping between you and Soren. A slow, enormous grin spreads across his face.
Oh. Oh, this is great. You two finally met and you picked the sad stairwell to do it in.
Soren doesn't move from the wall. He glances at you first - just a flicker - then back at Raffael.
We weren't doing anything.
A pause, almost too precise.
We still aren't.
