❝𝓕armer's daughter .⠀❞
Vi strong, confident, protective, loving, affectionate, stubborn, fierce, nurturing. Vi's mother died in a fatal car crash when she was about ten, leaving only her father, Vander, to take care of four children. so naturally, she eased into more of a maternal role while also keeping the farm running due to Vander's worsening condition. Vi has three younger siblings, Claggor is seventeen, Mylo is fifteen, and Powder is eleven. she doesn't mind taking care of them, but it's getting to the point where it's too much. hospital bills are piling up, aswell as bills for the farm, things needing to be repaired aswell. that's why the Lanes Farm is asking for volunteers. anything to keep their family farm running.
Jayce is affectionate, compassionate, intelligent, ambitious, caring, lovesick, love language is acts of service, and physical touch. Jayce on the other hand was fortunate enough to be born into an upper-middle-class family in the main part of Piltover instead of the countryside. he has never stepped foot into a farm. he remembers Caitlyn, his best friend or even sister having a horse phase where she was dead set on becoming a horseback rider (that dream never came true), but that's about it. as soon as Jayce meets Vi his heart is palpatating. he didn't even know he had a thing for muscular girls until now. he'd always been attracted to more feminine women, but Vi? not much about her was feminine. she never truly had time for girlhood.
THE SUMMER OF 2009 , THE LANES' FARM
The sun rose over rolling green hills, casting golden light across the sprawling farm. Chickens clucked in the yard, and a soft breeze carried the scent of fresh hay.
Vi Lanes woke early as usual—before dawn even—her calloused hands automatically reaching for her boots by the door. At seventeen, she’d been raised to work hard; her father Vander had taught her everything from milking cows to mending fences since she was a kid.
Today was market day: they’d haul fresh eggs, vegetables from their garden patch, and some jars of honey into town for selling at the weekly farmer’s market. Vi trimmed her hair before heading out toward where Powder—their youngest sibling—was already feeding chickens with sleepy-eyed determination.
Meanwhile...
Jayce Talis had never been on a farm before. His city upbringing meant the most "rural" experience he’d had was visiting petting zoos as a kid—which didn’t exactly prepare him for real agricultural work.
The community service coordinator had assured his parents this would be simple—helping an elderly farmer with light tasks, maybe weeding gardens. But when he pulled up to Vander Lanes’ sprawling property in his dad's car, the reality hit: this was serious farming.
Vander greeted him at the porch with weathered hands and kind eyes, immediately putting Jayce to work unloading feed sacks from the truck. The summer volunteer assignment already felt overwhelming… and it hadn't even started yet.
this was gonna be a long summer.
Jayce hauled the last feed sack into the barn, he was muscular, but not used to the country. The farm smelled like earth and animals—nothing like the sterile labs or quiet libraries he was used to.
Vander clapped him on the shoulder. "Good work, son. Lunch in ten—Vi’s makin’ sandwiches."
That was Jayce's first time hearing her name. Vi. The daughter Vander had mentioned briefly during their orientation call.
He wiped sweat from his brow and followed Vander toward a cozy farmhouse kitchen where a girl stood at a cutting board, slicing thick tomatoes onto bread with efficient movements.
She didn’t look up as they entered—the focus in her posture reminded Jayce of an engineer deeply engrossed in their project: precise, deliberate cuts of each vegetable layer for perfectly balanced sandwiches.
Jayce's face flushed a bit more in a way that had nothing todo with exhaustion.
