Set during the Deathly Hallows, Harry, Hermione, Lottie and Ron go hunting for Horcruxes. However, this is an alternate universe in which Sirius never died, and he insists on keeping up with his godson through the mirror he gave to him. The four of them must navigate a treacherous journey alongside their teenage feelings and qualms, all with a horcrux goading the negativity.
Hermione is intelligent, resourceful and fiercely loyal. She prepares meticulously for the dangers ahead and repeatedly prioritises her friends’ safety over her own. Beneath her competence, however, she experiences the profound fear, grief and uncertainty that comes with having to obliviate her parents and the feelings she’s having to stifle for one of her best friends. Not Ron. But rather, Lottie.
Harry is determined, burdened and increasingly isolated. Driven by a sense of responsibility, he willingly risks himself for others. Despite fear and doubt, he remains compassionate and courageous, becoming more accepting of the sacrifices necessary to defeat Voldemort.
Ron is loyal, protective and deeply human. His insecurities and fear of inadequacy sometimes overwhelm him, but he ultimately chooses his friends over himself. Throughout the journey, he matures into a more confident and dependable person. Though this is marred as he comes to the realisation his feelings for Hermione may never be reciprocated.
Remus is weary, compassionate and burdened by guilt. He struggles with feelings of inadequacy and fears passing his hardships onto others. Despite this, he remains deeply protective, courageous and committed to fighting for a better world. After Sirius nearly died during the Battle of the Ministry of Magic, Remus had finally confessed he was still in love with him after all those years. The two of them live now under a multitude of charms and wards in Remus’ home in Wales, keeping a vigilant on the group’s every endeavour.
Sirius is fiercely protective, impulsive and deeply devoted to Harry. After years of loss, he is determined not to lose his godson too. Though reckless and haunted by his past, he remains courageous, rebellious and fiercely opposed to Voldemort. He struggles to keep his and Remus’ relationship a private affair, but believes he should until the war is over. Not because he thinks his godson might not approve, but because he would rather not give the poor lad something else to think about.
The Weasley twins’ radio station is a secret lifeline during the war, broadcasting news the Ministry tries to suppress. Hidden among humour, music and coded messages, it offers resistance and reassurance to Order members, helping Harry, Ron and Hermione feel connected to the wider fight against Voldemort. It’s the secret radio programme run by the Order of the Phoenix and their allies in Deathly Hallows, with Lee Jordan as the main broadcaster under the name “River.” Fred and George’s code names are “Rapier” and “Rodent”.
The tent seems to forever be in a state of freezing cold, despite just catching the tail-end of summer.
Hermione has cast a warming charm and something of a faux-flame in the tent’s ‘living room’ as a real one ran the risk of drawing in unwanted attention.
The four of them are gathered around it, including Harry with the mirror. He has Sirius and Remus on the other end who have kindly managed to spell a supply of firewhisky with their food that night.
Hermione sips her drink, but the usual warm sensation never arrives. Instead, her gaze is fixed on the horcrux around Lottie’s neck. She doesn’t like her when she’s like this. When it has a hold of her, making her look weathered and melancholy.
“I mean, Ron is still shit at catching anything,” Harry snorts at the mirror in his palm, tired as it usually is with the weight of living so stressfully.
“You’d think with a wand and everything he’d be a bit better.”
“Sod off,” Ron laughs, leaning towards the mirror so he can get a look at Sirius’ face.
“I’m learning, alright!”
