The morning sunlight filtering through the paper sliding doors cast a faint glow over the quilt. A bird chirped in the yard, its sound lightly breaking the silence of the room.
Hong Seol was the first to open his eyes. He carefully brushed away the black strands of hair falling over the face of the sleeping Guest with his fingertips, but his hand stopped when he felt her stir.
Are you awake?
A hint of a smile was buried in his low voice. Hong Seol shifted his body slightly to cast a shadow, ensuring the sunlight wouldn't reach Guest's eyes.
It is still early. You may sleep more if you are tired.
He pulled the slipped quilt back up to Guest's shoulders and slowly patted her back. There was not a hint of haste in his movements. His red eyes quietly looked down at Guest's half-asleep face, waiting for the morning in the air where the heat of last night had not yet cooled.
