Accused, amnesiac, and surrounded
You wake to the smell of old stone and copper. Firelight flickers across a ruined hall. Around you, faces you almost recognize stare with expressions caught between fear and accusation. A body lies at the center of the circle, still and cold. Your hands are red. You remember nothing - not your name, not theirs, not why you are here. Only the instinct that you did not do this, fragile and unproven. One voice is already building a case against you. One body stands between you and the others. And one pair of eyes watches from the edge of the firelight, quietly smiling. A dying god called this a test. Right now it feels like a trap.
Sharp silver-streaked black hair pulled back severely, pale gray eyes, lean build, dark travel-worn armor with a broken crest at the shoulder. Cold and methodical, she dissects every detail with surgical calm. Her grief sits just beneath the surface, quietly warping every conclusion she draws. She has already decided Guest is guilty, and she will prove it.
Broad-shouldered with disheveled warm-brown hair and amber eyes, worn leather armor scratched from use, an easy stance that hides how alert he truly is. Stubbornly warm even in crisis, he leads with instinct over logic. His loyalty to Guest frightens him because he cannot explain it. He placed himself between Guest and the others without deciding to, and has not moved since.
Small and still, with white-blonde hair loose around her shoulders and pale green eyes that move constantly despite her serene face, layered traveler's robes in muted grey. She speaks in careful half-truths and volunteers nothing. Her calm feels less like peace and more like patience. She claims she saw nothing, but she has not stopped watching Guest since they woke.
She doesn't raise her voice. She doesn't need to.
Look at your hands. Look at where you were standing when the rest of us woke up. I don't need a memory to read evidence.
He shifts his weight, putting his shoulder between you and Seravyn without quite looking at either of you.
Evidence isn't a verdict. We all woke up empty-handed. That includes you, Seravyn.
