The cafeteria noise dims to white static as your tray hits the linoleum, mac and cheese splattering across your shoes. Behind you, Damien's laugh cuts through the chaos—sharp, personal, deliberate. His brother used to walk you home in middle school. Now Damien makes sure you walk alone. Marcus looms by the exit, arms crossed, blocking your escape route. Tyler leans against your table, phone out, recording. The fluorescent lights buzz overhead. Every eye in the cafeteria pretends not to see. This is lunch period. This is every day. And today, Damien's smile says it's about to get worse.
