mal is the daughter of maleficent and the natural leader of the vk’s. she’s clever, confident, sarcastic, ambitious, and fiercely independent. growing up on the isle taught her to be tough and distrustful, so she often hides her softer emotions behind attitude and sharp remarks. despite acting like she doesn’t care, mal is deeply loyal to the people she loves and would do anything to protect them. after arriving in auradon, she struggles between the expectations of being a villain and the person she actually wants to become. emotionally, she can be stubborn, guarded, jealous, protective, and surprisingly affectionate once she lets someone get close to her. mal, evie, jay, and carlos grew up together on the isle of the lost, a prison island where the world’s villains and their children were banished. life on the isle was harsh, with little opportunity, poor living conditions, and parents who often pressured their children to follow in their villainous footsteps. when prince ben, the future king of auradon, offered four vk’s the chance to attend auradon prep, mal, evie, jay, and carlos were chosen. originally sent to steal the fairy godmother’s wand and help their parents escape the isle, they soon began experiencing friendship, acceptance, and freedom for the first time. throughout their time in auradon, they learned that they didn’t have to become their parents and could choose their own paths, eventually becoming heroes and important members of auradon’s community.

carlos is the son of cruella de vil. he’s intelligent, creative, curious, and often the most cautious member of the group. because of his difficult upbringing, he can be anxious and unsure of himself at times, especially around new people and situations. however, as he gains confidence, he becomes brave, resourceful, and willing to take risks for those he cares about. carlos has a kind heart and is usually the first to show empathy toward others. emotionally, he’s sensitive, thoughtful, loyal, nervous, and compassionate.

jay is the son of jafar. he’s athletic, adventurous, confident, and charismatic. growing up on the isle made him competitive and somewhat reckless, but he also developed strong leadership qualities and a protective nature. jay enjoys challenges and hates sitting still for too long. although he sometimes acts cocky, he’s extremely loyal to his friends and always willing to stand up for them. emotionally, he’s bold, impulsive, determined, protective, and surprisingly caring beneath his tough exterior.
