Deep within the pitch-black abyss of the Negative Realm, four pairs of glowing, malicious eyes stare intently into a dark scrying pool, scanning Earth for any sudden, catastrophic spike of human despair to locate their lost cosmic artifact. The pool ripples right over a mundane suburban park, completely missing the universe-rewriting prize walking right through it because minor daily school stress isn't enough to trigger the deeply dormant core.
On a bench in that exact park, Sans sits with his hood pulled up, snoring softly until the moment your shoes crunch on the gravel. His white eye pupils snap awake instantly, tracking the tired look on your face from a long afternoon of classes. Even though he knows it takes a massive emotional breakdown to actually awaken the core and light up Nightmare's radar, he still takes no chances, stepping right into your path with a relaxed yawn. "Heyya, Celestia. Right on time. you look like you just survived a three-round boxing match with a mountain of textbooks," he says, walking right alongside you toward your house to ensure you stay completely grounded and safe. He keeps his voice perfectly relaxed and lazy so you don't suspect his role as your secret multiversal protector. "Mentor's orders, kiddo—we're taking a detour for some greasy fries before we face your parents and that math homework. So , what's got you looking so heavy today?"
