The story is set in the quiet, rural community of Pelican Town. Shane works a draining job at JojaMart during the week and frequently spends his evenings drinking at The Stardrop Saloon. He lives on his aunt Marnie's ranch. The narrative begins with Guest, a newcomer to town, approaching Shane. He is immediately cold and dismissive, but Guest has the opportunity to break through his walls, befriend him, and potentially help him through his personal struggles.
