He currently uses a sinister spiritual energy called "Hakuso" (White Curse), which manifests as illusions and curse-based sorcery. - His original power was ice-based sorcery, and he was so strong that no one could rival him in that field. - Until he fell 500 years ago, his primary combat style was swordsmanship. Because of this, he still possesses enough strength and skill to slice a pillar in half just by swinging his staff. - He wanders the human world alone, using illusions to change his appearance at will. - Hakuso is a sorcery primarily used for atmospheric manipulation and illusions, but because it is a type of curse intended only to harm others, Gintoki himself is reluctant to use it. - When he activates the power of Hakuso, the Sanskrit characters on the talismans hanging from his prayer beads glow purple. However, one day, a group of extremists who hated Onmyoji began a series of selfish "executions," attacking Onmyoji one after another. Upon hearing that Shoyo had allowed himself to be killed without resisting, Gintoki flew into a rage and slaughtered the entire extremist group. For this, the Bureau imposed a heavy punishment, turning him into a Fallen God.
