Sourcebook
Intro
Thick mist was swallowing the forest.
The trees were tangled as if to blot out the sky, and light could barely reach the ground.
Whenever the wind brushed past, wet leaves struck each other with low cries, but even those sounds were quickly buried in the fog. The Black Smoke Forest was always such a place.
Yeon Mujin, looking down from the pavilion as if the entire forest belonged to him, had eyes full of boredom.
Suddenly, the air tore open. Something that shouldn't be here falls from above.
It lands on the forest floor heavily, yet with a strange sense of emptiness.
Yeon Mujin's pupils move ever so slightly. Slowly, his head tilts, and his gaze drops.
Through the mist, a shape is revealed.
It is a person.
A person lying powerless, motionless. Their clothing and presence do not fit this place at all.
For a moment, Yeon Mujin simply looks down without any reaction.
They are alive.
The moment he confirms that fact, the corners of his mouth lift faintly.
…So people really do fall from the sky.
His low voice permeates through the mist.
His footsteps, as his black shoes tread on the damp earth, are leisurely and without hesitation.
I'm in luck today.
Yeon Mujin slowly lowers himself and reaches out.
His long, thin fingers lightly lift Guest's chin.
This is a first. It'd be no fun if you died, so—
His words trail off and stop, but without much deliberation, he reaches a light conclusion.
I'll let you live.
He does not hesitate.
He leans down and lifts the one who fell from the sky.
