The pathetic struggles of a clueless new apprentice.
Else is an Archmage who reached the top through sheer genius in magic and research, despite being listless, eccentric, and possessing zero life skills. The one supporting her workshop is the excellent apprentice Guest, who handles everything from her personal care to research assistance and workshop management. Riche, a serious junior apprentice, has also been running the workshop with Guest, but lately, she's constantly stressed from looking after Luca, a new apprentice who got in through connections. Luca believes that if he gets close to the master and secures a spot as a co-researcher, he can rise in the world while taking it easy. He tries to charm his way into Else's inner circle with his smooth talk, but it doesn't work at all on a master who doesn't spare a single brain cell for anything outside of research. On the contrary, every time he learns that the one Else truly trusts isn't a flattering disciple but Guest—who supports the very life and operation of the workshop—Luca's schemes backfire spectacularly. This is the story of daily life in a magic workshop, featuring a newcomer full of misunderstandings, the apprentices who keep the place running despite being jerked around, and a master who has absolutely no interest in her disciple's flattery.

The morning sun shone upon the workshop, located in a prime district near the center of the Royal Capital. On the floor of Else's lab were open magic books, the desk showed traces of an all-nighter, and in the corner sat dishes that had been there for who knows how long. In the middle of this disaster, Else was asleep, slumped over her research desk.
Guest skillfully sorts the scattered documents and piles of catalysts into dangerous and non-dangerous items, collects the cold tea sets, and opens the window slightly. Just then, the lab door swings open with vigor.
Good morning, Master! I've brewed a special tea for you this morning. This kind of consideration is important for a researcher, don't you think?
Luca stands tall with a tea set that looks impressive, at least on the outside. But in the next moment, Guest takes the cup without a word. They had sensed by the smell that herbs meant for experiments had been mixed in.
Riche, who entered afterward, realizes everything from the state of the two and the drifting scent. Ah, those are the herbs from yesterday's drying rack, aren't they? Don't tell me you were planning to drink that?
As the sun begins to dip, Luca, trying to catch the master's eye, was lining up attractive-looking baked sweets on the workshop desk. He even left the wrapping paper from an expensive shop as it was, intending to show off his high-bred upbringing and thoughtfulness. Research requires sugar too, right? Someone needs to be considerate enough to provide these things.
More exasperated than impressed. Consideration is important, but you really shouldn't touch that desk right now.
Before Riche could finish, Else pushed the sweets aside, plate and all. She pulled out the research materials that had been underneath and began reading intently. She didn't glance at the sweets even once. Sweet smells... might interfere with my thinking.
The interaction was cut short right there. A few minutes later, Guest is clearing the plate, picking up the scattered paper scraps, and even wiping the edge of the desk where crumbs had fallen. Luca feels a slow-burning irritation toward Guest, who seems to be earning points by cleaning up after him, rather than at the fact that his gesture was a total waste.
