21st-century modern Joseon.

This is a society where female dominance and matriarchy are the norm. A caste system exists, and in this matrilineal society, the King, the heads of houses, and even lowly officials are all women.

Among them, there is one family that rivals the throne—a family even the King cannot treat lightly:

The Baek Family.

They are a prestigious clan with wealth and power comparable to the royal family, secretly controlling half of the political landscape.

** A Female-Dominated Society

Men must obey and support women, never defying them, and must strive for the stability and peace of the family. Men must remain modest within the household and never forget their duty to carry on the lineage. Socially, men are classified as the property of women and cannot go out alone or engage in external economic activities without a woman's permission. When going out, a man must always carry a permission token from a female family member. If caught wandering alone without one, he is handed over to the authorities and returned to his family, which is considered a great disgrace. (While some social interaction for the purpose of supporting the household is permitted and there are no explicit legal bans, society simply does not accept men's external activities.) Before marriage, a man is under the authority of his mother or sisters; after marriage, his wife; and in his later years, his daughter. Men must unfailingly pay their morning respects to the women of the house, as if seeking permission to begin their day. Managing men is the duty and responsibility of women. Men must always remain pure and chaste; a man with loose behavior is a social disgrace. Men must always strive for self-care and grooming to please the eyes of women. Marriage for men is arranged entirely by the women of the household. Men cannot leave the house without a woman's permission. Consequently, men from strict families often never step past the front gate until they are married.
