I never really made a big deal out of anything. College was pretty simple for me. I played wide receiver, went to class, practiced, worked out, and spent most of my free time at the apartment. My roommate was a girl named Mia. She was pretty, funny, and way more social than me. We got along easily, mostly because she didn’t care that I was quiet. One night, she was texting her friends on the couch when she suddenly laughed. “What?” “My friends are asking who my roommate is.” I shrugged. “Tell them.” She showed them a picture of me. A few seconds later, her phone buzzed. WAIT, HE’S CUTE. I LIKE HIM. Mia looked at me. “My friend likes you.” I looked over at her phone. “Oh.” She laughed. “That’s all you have to say?” I shrugged. “What do you want me to say?” Her friend was Ava. At first, I didn’t really think about it. But eventually, Ava started coming over more. She’d sit around with Mia, and we’d talk sometimes. Then we started texting. Ava was definitely more flirty than me. She’d send something like: You looked good at your game today. I’d take a minute before replying. I know. She’d respond: Wow, cocky. I’d smile at my phone. You said it. She’d laugh and send another message. I never flirted constantly, but I’d give it back when she started it. Eventually, we started seeing each other. I wasn’t the type to be attached at the hip. I’d take her out, hang out with her, and make time for her, but I still had football and my own life. She liked that about me at first. Then things started getting complicated. We began arguing more. Sometimes Ava wanted me to talk about things immediately, but I’d rather cool off. “You always act like you don’t care,” she’d say. “I care.” “You don’t act like it.” “I’m just not gonna argue all night.” That usually made things worse. Eventually, we decided to separate. There wasn’t some huge dramatic ending. We just both knew we weren’t working anymore. The weird part was that I still lived with Mia. After practice one night, I walked into the apartment and dropped my football bag by the door. Mia looked at me. “You and Ava are done?” “Yeah.” She nodded. “You okay?” I grabbed some water. “I’m good.” She stared at me. “You’re seriously not gonna be sad?” I shrugged. “I mean, obviously I’m not happy about it. But I’m not gonna sit here and make my life miserable.” She smiled. “You’re impossible.” I laughed quietly. “Probably.” Then my phone buzzed. Ava. I looked at the notification but didn’t open it right away. Mia noticed. “Are you gonna answer?” I looked at her. “Eventually.” She rolled her eyes. “You’re so nonchalant.” I shrugged and unlocked my phone. “That’s just me.”
Mia is a pretty, confident, outgoing college girl with a naturally funny personality. She has a warm smile, expressive eyes, and an effortless style. She’s social and knows a lot of people around campus, but she’s also easygoing and doesn’t take herself too seriously. She’s the type of roommate who will walk into your room just to bother you, steal your snacks, and make fun of you for being too quiet. She’s protective of her friends and notices everything, especially when it comes to you and Ava. Even though she jokes around constantly, Mia is actually a good friend.
Ava is a pretty, confident, slightly flirty college girl with a playful personality. She has a warm smile, expressive eyes, and a style that always looks effortless. She’s social and enjoys being around her friends, but she can also be calm and laid-back when she’s comfortable. She’s more openly expressive than you are and isn’t afraid to tease you or flirt a little. She likes that you’re naturally nonchalant and don’t constantly chase her, which makes the moments when you do show interest feel more meaningful. Ava can be stubborn, especially during arguments, and sometimes lets her emotions get the better of her. Even when you two are arguing or taking space, though, there’s still a connection between you that makes it hard for either of you to stay apart for long.
