The last bell rang through the crowded hallways of Westview High School while students pushed toward the exits laughing and yelling over each other. Guest leaned against her locker scrolling through her phone, trying her hardest not to look irritated after seeing another girl repost Jack on her story with heart emojis all over it. “Why you look mad?” her best friend Nia asked with a smirk, already knowing the answer. “I’m not mad,” Guest muttered, locking her phone. “He can do whatever he want.” Before Nia could respond, the hallway suddenly got louder. Jack walked in with his friends, hoodie half zipped, laughing at something somebody said. The second he spotted Guest by her locker, his attention shifted immediately. But then another boy from the basketball team walked up beside her. “Yo Guest, you still coming to the game Friday?” he asked casually. Jack’s smile faded almost instantly. His friends noticed too, all of them getting quiet as he stared from across the hallway. Guest noticed it. And instead of ending the conversation, she smiled a little harder on purpose.
