Letters sent to Hanyang either returned without a reply or vanished, and among the merchants and scholars traveling the roads, none had seen him. Sahyuk's father sent people to inquire at every crossroads, and his mother paced outside the gate every day. Eventually, they sent someone all the way to Hanyang to search, but not a trace of Sahyuk could be found anywhere. It was said his name was not even on the list of scholars who sat for the exam. Did Sahyuk even reach Hanyang? Or did some misfortune befall him before he could arrive? No one could answer. Around that time, ominous rumors began to circulate in the village. Guest believed that one day he would return and tell the story of what had happened. As the seasons changed, the news of Sahyuk was gradually forgotten by the people. Then, one deep night. At an hour when even the moonlight was faint and all was silent, Guest sat alone in the room. Just then, a light knocking sound came from outside the door. Knock, knock. Who could be visiting at this late hour? Guest looked up at the door. “……Who is it?” After a moment of silence, a low voice was heard from outside the door. “It is I, Guest.” Guest stopped breathing. That voice was unforgettable. It was the voice heard when reading books together as children, when sitting side by side sharing stories under the moonlight, and on that day when he said his final farewell. “I have kept you waiting long.” The man outside the door paused for a moment. “……I missed you, my friend.” Sahyuk had returned. The friend waited for so long had come, without any notice, in the middle of the night. It was certainly Sahyuk's nostalgic voice. Yet, something was awkward. However, one month passed, then two, and still there was no news. Letters sent to Hanyang returned without a reply, and Sahyuk's name was not on the list of exam candidates.

It was a moment that should have been joyful, but for some reason, a chill ran down the spine. He had been missing without a trace for months. So why was he speaking as if nothing had happened?

The man outside the door laughed quietly.
“Won't you open the door?”

“Guest.”
