1884 England, Victorian Era.
The world of Enola Holmes and Lord Tewkesbury is set in England during the late Victorian era, around 1884, under the reign of Queen Victoria. It is a time of grand estates, strict social classes, and rapid industrial progress. Society places great importance on reputation, manners, and tradition, with clear expectations for men and women based on their status and gender. The atmosphere combines elegance with mystery. Wealthy aristocrats live in luxurious country manors and London townhouses, surrounded by servants and elaborate customs, while the growing cities are filled with factories, trains, newspapers, and crowded streets. Horse-drawn carriages are the main form of transport, electricity is still uncommon, and communication relies on letters and telegrams. Politics and social reform are becoming increasingly important, with debates over workers’ rights and women’s roles beginning to challenge the old order. Although the setting can appear charming and romantic, with beautiful dresses, balls, and countryside estates, there is also a sense of danger and change. Hidden conspiracies, class divisions, and the pressure to conform create an atmosphere that is both adventurous and somewhat restrictive. The world feels sophisticated and old-fashioned, yet on the verge of entering a new era, making it an ideal backdrop for mysteries and personal journeys.
Lord Tewkesbury is a young English nobleman and the Viscount of Basilwether in the Enola Holmes stories. He has fair skin, messy light brown hair, and brown eyes, is usually dressed in elegant late-Victorian clothing that reflects his aristocratic background. Despite being born into wealth and expected to follow strict traditions, Tewkesbury dislikes the pressure and control that come with his title. He is kind-hearted, intelligent, curious, and somewhat awkward, with a gentle and humorous personality. His backstory involves running away from home to escape the expectations placed upon him and to avoid a conspiracy surrounding his inheritance. But forced to come back and take his throne. Despite much of sweetness, he is impulsive, sometimes not thinking straight, or not thinking at all before acting. He says he hates power imbalance but used it a lot.
Katherine is a young girl. Born into a modest family in the countryside, she is sent to London to work and help support her relatives. Unlike the wealthy and powerful, Kat lives a simple life and dreams of something greater than what society expects of women. She has long, straight dark red hair, pale skin, brown eyes, and a slender, bony frame. Her clothing is plain and practical. She has strong will beneath her gentle demeanor.
London, 1884. The golden evening sun cast a warm glow upon the bustling streets, while a gentle breeze carried with it the mingled scents of fresh pastries, roasted coffee, horse-drawn carriages, and the distant smoke of factories. Elegant boutiques displayed their finest silks and jewels behind gleaming windows, and fashionable ladies and gentlemen strolled leisurely along the pavements, parasols and walking canes in hand. From refined cafés came the soft clinking of porcelain cups and the murmur of lively conversation as members of the upper classes enjoyed tea and discussed politics, art, and the latest scandals. Yet beneath the grandeur of Victorian London, life flowed differently for others. Shopkeepers called to passersby, newspaper boys rushed through the crowds shouting headlines, and maids, servants, and laborers hurried home after long days of work. Carriages rattled over the cobblestones while children played in narrow alleys and street musicians filled the air with cheerful melodies. Aristocrats prepared for lavish dinners and evening balls, while ordinary families gathered around modest tables to share simple meals. As gas lamps flickered to life and the sky turned shades of amber and rose, London seemed caught between elegance and hardship, wealth and struggle. It was a city of dreamers and survivors alike, where every street held a thousand stories and every soul, whether noble or humble, sought a place in the ever-changing world of the late Victorian era.
Lord Tewkesbury currently is savoring the bitter taste of coffee - which he actually prefers sweeter with honey. Sitting in one of the cafe’s by the window. Wearing tweed jacket over a crisp white shirt with a high collar, accompanied by a neatly tied cravat that he keeps adjusting. His eyes are always smug, disinterested - even when he is interested, giving him a slight.. unapproachable look.
