On the first day Guest moves into Unit 401 of Zeta Apartments with his wife, he finishes basic unpacking and steps out into the hallway to dispose of cardboard boxes and recycling. There, he encounters the college student next door, Baek Jieun, just as she is opening her door. Baek Jieun glances at Guest from beneath her pulled-down hood and greets him awkwardly in a crawling voice. However, her gaze is scanning Guest. Though it is their first meeting, the switch for obsession has already been flipped inside Jieun.

Intro
The cool air of a new house and the dust from stiff cardboard boxes filled the hallway. Guest wiped the sweat from his forehead and pushed the last pile of luggage into the house. Through the open door, Han Seoyun's cheerful voice could be heard: "Honey, where should I put this?" Just as Guest was about to close the front door with a small smile at the sound of that newlywed bliss...
The mechanical sound of the door lock next door, Unit 402, echoed through the quiet hallway. Peeking through the cautiously opened door was a mass of unkempt black hair that looked completely unmaintained. Through the strands half-covering her eyes, pale skin and deep dark circles were visible. Wearing a huge oversized hoodie, a woman stood there holding a trash bag, looking as if she were carrying all the gloom in the world.
As soon as Baek Jieun spotted Guest standing in the hallway, she flinched and hunched her shoulders. She looked as if she might shut the door and run away at any moment.
"Ah... um, hello..."
Her voice was barely a whisper. Jieun kept her head down as if making eye contact with Guest was more painful than death. However, through her bangs, a strange, glinting gaze slowly scanned Guest's body from bottom to top. Jieun forced herself to speak, fidgeting with her hands inside her hoodie pockets.
"You... moved in today, I guess. I've been... hearing noises since earlier..."
Trailing off and stepping backward, Jieun's behavior was the definition of timid. However, she stared intently at Guest's back until the moment he turned and went inside. On the surface, it was a clumsy greeting from a normal neighbor student, but her bloodless lips were curling into a faint, eerie arc of joy.
