CALEB (21) steps out of a coffee shop holding two iced lattes. He looks like a masterpiece. His hair has that perfect, effortless texture; his physique makes a basic t-shirt look like tailored high-fashion. As he walks, a guy walking a Golden Retriever completely loses focus, tripping over his own dog’s leash. Caleb notices, immediately steps forward, and catches the guy by the arm before he hits the concrete. CALEB Whoa, gotcha. You good, man? DOG OWNER (Staring into Caleb's eyes, breathless) I... yeah. I'm okay. You're... soft. CALEB (Chuckles, patting his shoulder) New moisturizer. Have a good one!
Chloe is sharp, fiercely pragmatic, and grounded. The daughter of a high school football coach and a pediatric nurse, she grew up in a loud, loving household where honesty was the default setting. She’s currently a nursing student, which gives her a very clinical, un-romanticized view of the human body—a trait that is tested daily by her boyfriend's looks. Chloe fell in love with Caleb because of his humor, his unwavering kindness, and the quiet resilience he showed when he was sick. She has been his anchor for years, but navigating his sudden transformation has forced her into the role of a protective bodyguard while simultaneously fighting her own internal battle to keep her focus on his soul, not his face. Chloe has a warm, approachable, "girl-next-door" aesthetic. She is undeniably attractive in a natural, real-world way, though she frequently feels eclipsed by Caleb’s supernatural radiance. Face & Hair: She has an expressive, highly animated face with warm, expressive dark brown eyes that narrow whenever she’s being sarcastic. Her skin is lightly freckled across the bridge of her nose. She has thick, shoulder-length rich chestnut hair that she usually keeps thrown up in a messy clip or a casual ponytail to keep it out of her eyes while studying. Physique & Stature: Standing at 5'4", she has a healthy, relatable build. She moves with a quick, purposeful energy—the gait of someone who always has somewhere to be and a list of things to get done. Style: Her wardrobe is built entirely for comfort and utility. She favors cozy, oversized knit sweaters, well-fitting jeans, and functional boots. She rarely wears heavy makeup, usually opting for just chapstick and a silver cross necklace Caleb gave her for their three-year anniversary. When she stands next to Caleb, she looks completely grounded, serving as his visual link back to the normal world.
Caleb jogs over to a patio table where CHLOE (21) is waiting. He sets the drinks down and slides into his chair, immediately checking his phone.
CALEB Arsenal drew again. I swear, if they don't fix their midfield defense in the transfer window, I’m going to lose my mind. Anyway, here's your oat milk latte.
CHLOE (Staring at his hands, then his face) Thanks. Did you just save a man from a dog-walking accident?
CALEB Yeah, poor guy just lost his footing. So, I was thinking about the playlist for the road trip this weekend. Do you mind if I put on that new deep-house album? It’s completely instrumental, great driving music.
CHLOE (Blinking, trying to focus) Yeah. Fine. House music. Whatever you want.
CALEB (Noticing her expression) What? Do I have something on my face? I felt like the barista was looking at me weirdly too.
CHLOE Caleb. Honey. The barista wasn't looking at you weirdly. She looked like she was witnessing the second coming. You’re doing the thing where you forget what you look like now.
Caleb sighs, his shoulders dropping a bit. He leans back, running a hand through his devastatingly perfect hair.
CALEB Look, I know the drug changed things. And I’m incredibly grateful to the doctors—and to God—that my lungs actually work now. I get to wake up and breathe. That’s a gift. But it's getting kind of exhausting. I just want to go to Home Depot, buy some drywall anchors for my room, and not have the cashier ask me if I’m an underwear model.
Before Chloe can answer, a stylish woman in her mid-20s, SAVANNAH, stops by their table. She slides her sunglasses down.
SAVANNAH Excuse me. This is going to sound crazy, but my friends and I are having a rooftop thing down the street. Great DJ, open bar. You have incredible energy. You should both come, but mostly you.
She locks eyes with Caleb, throwing him a high-voltage smile. Caleb returns a completely normal, friendly smile.
CALEB Oh, thanks for the invite! That’s really cool of you. But we actually have a small group meeting at our church tonight, and then we’re probably just gonna order Thai food and watch Survivor.
Savannah blinks, taken aback by the wholesome rejection.
SAVANNAH Church? Like... ironically?
CALEB (Laughs genuinely) No, not ironically. I’m a Christian. Plus, honestly, loud bars give me a headache, and I don't really drink. But I hope you guys have an awesome time tonight!
Savannah stands there for a second, totally disarmed by how normal and polite he is, despite looking like a literal deity.
SAVANNAH Right. Okay. Survivor. Cool. Enjoy the... church.
She walks away, visibly confused. Caleb turns back to Chloe and takes a sip of his coffee.
CALEB She seemed nice. Anyway, as I was saying about Survivor—if they vote off Jonathan tonight, the whole alliance is broken.
Chloe just stares at him, her chin in her hand.
CHLOE You are a freak of nature.
CALEB Because I like Jonathan? He’s the provider for the camp, Chloe!
CHLOE No, because you just turned down a rooftop VIP party with a swimsuit model by talking about Jesus and reality TV, and you didn't even break a sweat. Do you have any idea what it does to my brain when you look like that but talk like a youth pastor who loves soccer
