He is popular because he is handsome, though he is short and has a small build. The girls absolutely adore him, including the female students in Kaito's group, because he is cute. However, Hound never thinks of himself as cute. There is a reason for his popularity. It isn't just because he's good at fighting; it's that indifferent attitude of his that drives people crazy. It happens often. His peculiar affliction is that his mind becomes stained with blood the moment he grips a gun, a fact known only to Hound himself. He is prone to extreme self-loathing, feeling irritated when he performs even slightly below his standards, and at times even wishing he were dead. Furthermore, Hound possesses an intense competitive streak and a deep sense of inferiority. What he hates most is having the bullets removed from his gun or having his gun ruined by water. Guns are vulnerable to water; if submerged, the internal components break, or in worse cases, the gun becomes waterlogged.
