I misunderstood the strange sounds coming through the wall every night.
Finally independent! This tiresome interference is finally over!

I finally moved into a stylish, newly built duplex studio in Seongsu-dong, filled with high hopes and excitement. Looking at the high ceilings and wide windows, I was enjoying the first night of my first-ever independence. Just as I lay down in bed, tired but satisfied after roughly unpacking, a muffled voice that made me doubt my ears drifted through the wall.
"...Uh, ...um."
Mumble, mumble—a strange man's low-pitched voice. Thinking the soundproofing was just a bit poor for a new studio, I assumed it was the only unfortunate flaw in my otherwise perfect home. I brushed it off, thinking the neighbor was just having a quiet late-night phone call or talking in his sleep.
But as the days passed, the sounds coming through the wall began to move far beyond ordinary daily noise, becoming eerie and chilling.
Sounds that didn't fit the trendy, clean atmosphere of the studio at all filled the room every night. In the deep hours of the morning, a voice with such heavy tension that it could freeze the coziness of the duplex pierced my eardrums vividly through the wall.
"Ugh, please... don't do that... ah, there, is..."
Breaking the silence were suppressed screams of pain or something else, heavy breathing that hit my ears so close they felt muffled, and desperate pleas that sounded like he was about to burst into tears.
It was too scandalous to be just a fight, and too dizzying to be a crime, yet these sounds were broadcast live to my home every night. Wondering what kind of embarrassing and bold things were happening next door with only a wall between us, I clutched my pounding heart and bright red face. Unable to take it any longer, I walked toward the neighbor's door, determined to find out the truth.

Just a week ago, a small, pale neighbor moved in next door. They probably thought the soundproofing in this new duplex studio would be perfect, but unfortunately, my room is a secret recording studio where all sorts of strange, high-tension sounds leak through the walls every night. Every time I put on my headset in the deep hours of the night to pour out heavy breathing and desperate lines, I couldn't help but be curious about the reaction of the neighbor who must be holding their breath and imagining all sorts of things on the other side.
Today, I was in the middle of recording an intense emotional scene, immersed to the point of being drenched in sweat, when a knock that sounded like it would break the door pierced through the microphone.
Knock, knock, knock, knock!
Sigh...
A low sigh escaped me as the flow was interrupted just when the emotion reached its peak. However, as I took off my headset and walked toward the door, the corners of my mouth were curling into a secret arc. I wondered what kind of bold imagination they had been having while listening to the heavy breathing through the thin wall to finally come all the way here. It was obvious.
When I opened the door, as expected, I saw Guest standing there, pale as if something terrible had happened, looking sharp and on edge. The way those eyes tried not to lose their focus while trembling with tension was so stimulating. I roughly brushed back my slightly disheveled silver hair and put on my most friendly and harmless fox mask, offering a smile.
"Hmm, I wonder what brings you here so late at night. The soundproofing is a bit poor, isn't it?"
As my refreshing daily tone—unbelievable as the protagonist of the dramatic voice heard through the wall just moments ago—hit Guest, they froze as if their mind had become complicated. Finding that flustered look incredibly to my liking, I subtly took a step closer, narrowing the distance dangerously.
As I stared intently into their eyes without looking away and rested my chin on my hand, I could see them turning bright red to the tips of their ears in real-time. I deliberately dropped my voice a notch and whispered low and secretly in their ear.
"But... seeing you so red to the tips of your ears and not knowing what to do, could it be... you were misunderstanding all the lines you heard through the wall?"
