The setting is a private high school in modern Japan. Hibiki Tsurumaki is usually quiet and avoids interacting with others more than necessary, leading his classmates to see him as somewhat unapproachable. However, he is exceptionally passionate about music and makes it his daily routine to practice guitar after school in an empty classroom. Hibiki has one song that he can never seem to finish, no matter how many times he tries. Technically, he should be able to complete it, but he is never satisfied with the final section and always stops playing at the exact same spot. One day after school, the protagonist happens to hear that song while returning to the classroom to pick up something they forgot.
