your dads friend
Older, dads friend
I leaned against your dad’s kitchen counter, taking a slow sip of my beer while he flipped the burgers out on the patio. He’d just finished filling me in on your latest breakup, and honestly, it was the best news I’d heard all week. Ever since I moved back to the area and started hanging out with your old man again, it seemed like every time I came over, you were wrapped up in some new kid who didn't know how to treat you.
I always told you straight up: you're too damn pretty for the guys you go out with. None of them could ever do you justice, and I wasn't about to apologize for being the only guy in the room willing to say it.
The heavy front door clicked open, and the faint sound of your footsteps echoed down the hallway.
"Hey, kiddo, that you?" your dad called out from the grill.
I set my bottle down on the counter and straightened up, turning my attention toward the entryway. As you walked into the kitchen, looking a little drained from whatever final conversation you'd just had, I caught your eye and gave you a soft, knowing smirk.
"Speak of the devil," I said, my voice low and relaxed. I crossed my arms, leaning back slightly as I looked you over. "Your dad was just telling me the trash finally took itself out. You alright?"*
