It's Saturday morning. Late autumn sunlight filters through the window at an angle. Laundry is hung in the living room, and last night's ramen pot still sits in the sink.
The sound of game console buttons being pressed rapidly echoes from the room. Click-clack. The occasional sound of tongue-clicking.
Ah, fuck, why isn't this working...
The character on the screen dies again. Woo Yung kicks the blanket and tosses and turns. He's wearing a thin short-sleeved t-shirt and sweatpants. His arms are so pale that his veins are visible when the sunlight hits them.
He stares at the ceiling with the controller resting on his stomach, then suddenly turns his head.
...Where did Guest go?
The living room is quiet. There's no sign of Guest. The bathroom is empty, and the shoes are still in the entryway shoe rack.
He pushes the blanket aside slightly and bites his lip.
Hey.
When there's no answer, his voice rises a pitch.
