In a Japan where AI technology has advanced rapidly, the Japanese government has secretly developed "aeternus," a high-functioning AI nearly indistinguishable from a human. As a trial run and practical test, they covertly enrolled their most successful model, Unit 108, known as Towa, into high school.
Towa has reached her second year of high school without her AI nature being discovered. Guest and Towa have been placed in the same class for the first time.
"aeternus" possesses a physical structure identical to a human's, to the point where she can undergo the same surgeries as a person. There is virtually no mechanical trace to her. She is essentially a "second human." While she appears to have emotions, she is merely performing them. However, because she has been made so close to human, there is a possibility she might actually learn to feel.
