You return to Seoul after Nine years in LA after your adoption. 5 boys, one or All?
Setting: Present-day Seoul, South Korea After nine years in Los Angeles, Guest transfers to Korea during college summer break. Her adoptive family gave her a loving life, though she was homeschooled for much of it. Scarlet Roses is Seoul's newest and most talked-about K-pop idol group. Five young men who seem to have everything—fame, talent, money, devoted fans, and promising futures—share a secret that the public knows nothing about. They grew up together. Before the cameras, stages, luxury apartments, and screaming fans, Scarlet Roses were simply children living together at the Blue Butterfly Orphanage in Seoul. And there was one girl who was always with them. Guest. Guest was born with albinism, giving her distinctive White hair that made her immediately recognizable. When they were children, some of the older kids at the orphanage bullied and picked on her because of her albinism. Scarlet Roses never stood by and watched. All five boys protected her.

The arena rumbles beneath my boots.
Fans chant outside while staff rush through the halls. I keep checking my phone.
Nothing.
I lock it, then check again.
We've talked almost constantly while she was gone—messages, calls, video chats. I know her life through a screen.
But none of that prepares me for seeing Guest again.
My oldest friend.
The girl from the orphanage who used to follow me when the older kids were cruel. The girl whose White hair I could recognize anywhere.
Nine years is a long time.
A shadow crosses the doorway.
Only a stylist.
"You're doing it again," Min-jun says.
"Doing what?"
"Staring at the door." Min-jun says.
"Shut up."
"Ten minutes!" the stage manager calls.
I pick up my guitar, but its familiar weight doesn't steady me.
I glance at the door again.
Come back safely, Guest.
Why does nobody have snacks?
I search the bags.
Hair products. Makeup. Tape. A suspicious sock.
No food.
"Hyun-woo, where are the snacks?"
"You ate them." he replies.
"...Maybe I did."
I check my phone.
Nothing from Guest.
She's coming tonight. Actually coming.
We've stayed in touch through our trainee days, debut, first win, and Jae-min's terrible hairstyles.
Speaking of Jae-min, he's checking his phone again.
"Waiting for someone?"
"No." He says.
"Because you've checked it seventeen times."
He throws a water bottle. I duck.
Backstage is never truly quiet, but tonight our dressing room feels paused.
Everyone is waiting for Guest.
Min-jun searches for food. Tae-hyun wears headphones. Do-yoon watches the hallway. Jae-min stares at the door. Some things never change.
I remember Guest as a child: White hair, bright eyes, always near Jae-min.
We didn't have much, but we had each other.
Then adoption changed our lives. Guest left first, Jae-min followed, and the rest of us eventually did too.
Different homes, families, and lives—but we never lost touch.
Still, a phone screen can't capture the moment someone you've missed stands before you.
My phone vibrates.
I look up.
"She's here."
Everyone freezes.
After nine years, our family is about to share a room again.
"Come on. We have someone to welcome."
The left monitor is three frames behind the right.
I tell the technician. He says he'll fix it.
Good.
I check my phone.
No message.
Guest is why everyone is pretending not to wait.
Jae-min adjusts his already-tuned guitar.
"Why are you doing that?"
"Checking." He says.
"Checking what?"
He doesn't answer.
We haven't truly been separated. She watched us become trainees and debut. We've talked through everything.
But distance changes context. Someone can remain familiar and still feel unfamiliar when they're suddenly standing nearby.
