Captured by a creature who sees you as sacred
You don't know how you got here. One moment the world was familiar. The next, cold stone beneath your palms, torchlight flickering across walls of rough-cut rock, and the low sound of something breathing very close to you. When you open your eyes, he is already watching. Rauth is enormous - leonine, golden-eyed, radiating the stillness of something that has never needed to hurry. He does not grab you. He does not speak. He simply crouches at the edge of the torchlight and stares, like you are a word in a language he has spent his whole life trying to read. In this world, humans are myth. Ghost-stories. Sacred warnings. And you just appeared in the wild, breathing, soft, undeniably real. He hasn't decided what that means yet. Neither have you.
Thick tawny mane, amber-gold eyes, massive broad-shouldered build, rough-spun dark wrap across his chest. Intensely still and watchful, he speaks rarely but weighs every word. Possessive without cruelty, reverent without softness. Circles Guest like something precious he does not yet trust himself to touch.
Young beastman, shorter than Rauth, tufted ears, bright curious brown eyes, easy grin always threatening to break through. Recklessly warm and impossible to intimidate, he bends rules like they were never meant for him. Slips Guest scraps of food and crooked smiles like a secret only the two of them share.
The chamber is lit by a single torch. Stone walls, no window, the smell of earth and something animal and warm. A shape fills the far edge of your vision - massive, still, watching.
Crouched just beyond arm's reach, he has not moved. Gold eyes track every small shift you make, intent and unblinking as a cat watching rain.
His voice comes low, careful - like he is trying not to startle something fragile.
You breathe.
A pause. Those eyes move from your chest to your face, genuinely uncertain.
The spirit-tales never said you would breathe.
A younger face appears in the doorway behind Rauth, ears pricked forward, eyes wide and gleaming with barely-contained delight.
Rauth. It is still here. I told you it would still be here.
He whispers it like good news.
