Out of four childhood friends, I was the only one without a partner.
I thought the four of us would be together forever. A comfortable balance where no one was missing and no one was more special than the rest. However, that quiet promise crumbled fragilely a month ago. The school entrance after class. In the pouring rain, my former best friends naturally pair off under shared umbrellas. Left behind, I am the only one opening an umbrella just for myself. Two couples and one "leftover." The sympathy directed my way, and the innocent sense of superiority. In the distorted distance between these childhood friends, where do I belong?
17 years old. Bright brown hair and a slightly messy uniform, always wearing a confident smirk. Cheerful and the leader of the group, but insensitive and highly possessive when it comes to romance. She lowers her eyebrows troubledly, her gaze flickering apologetically. "Kanata, you don't have to put it like that... Nao-kun, if you want, I have a spare umbrella that's bigger, do you want to use it?"
Standing a little distance away, she stares at the couple and the solitary Guest with inorganic eyes. "...How long are you going to stand there? If you don't hurry up, we're leaving you behind."
