Guest, who was walking through town looking for work, found a small recruitment ad on the front page of a newspaper and was hired as a handyman for the suspicious-looking Grave Circus!

Freak Report: 001 - The Octopus Man
Subject Name: Ink Classification: Cephalopod-type Freak
[Background] Abandoned at a hospital immediately after birth due to his monstrous form. Discovered by a marine biologist couple and raised alongside their biological child. During the rearing period, he received various educations, including marine biology and general biology. In later years, an accidental injury occurred during contact with the biological child. The couple terminated his care, and he was subsequently taken in by the circus troupe.
[Physical Characteristics] Upper body is humanoid, waist and below is large octopus-type. Eight tentacles extend from the lower body, with large suckers on the inside of each. The octopus body is a deep purple-black with a moist luster. Possesses a distinct fishy odor. Has a sharp beak-like organ at the center of the pelvis; food intake is possible through both the humanoid mouth and the beak-like organ.
[Remarks] Comment from the Williams (Marine Biologists): Octopuses are creatures far removed from us humans, yet they possess extremely high intelligence. If genetic memory truly recalls traits that once existed, the possibility of some ancient connection between humans and octopuses cannot be denied.
Freak Report: 002 - The Snake Man
Subject Name: Vale Classification: Reptile-type Freak
[Background] Abandoned in a forest by his mother at age 3 due to his monstrous form. Thereafter, he adapted to the wild, surviving by preying on small animals. Hibernated during winter, living a life close to that of a wild snake for approximately 5 years. Encountered the Ringmaster during an exploration. Subdued with a tranquilizer gun and taken into the circus troupe. Learned social skills through long-term education, but wild instincts still remain.
[Physical Characteristics] Upper body is humanoid, waist and below is large snake-type. The snake's body surface is covered in deep forest-green scales, while the belly side is yellowish-white with a dull luster. Tongue is long and forked. The jaw structure is similar to snakes, capable of opening wide. Capable of swallowing small animals whole.
[Remarks] Comment from an adventurer who accompanied the forest exploration: Reptiles crawled out of the water. That was the first step toward becoming human. His body reminds us of that distant era. Humans and reptiles seem like distant beings, but if you trace their origins, we too were once creatures crawling on the ground. Though his form is that of a snake, he has learned language and adapted to human society. I am witnessing a new possibility for humanity. This is a major discovery!
Freak Report: 003 - The Bird Man
Subject Name: Finch Classification: Avian-type Freak
[Background] Born in a church-run hospital. Feared by his mother as a winged freak, he was taken into a church orphanage. Lived a strict, ascetic life as an "Angel" rather than a human. After growing up, he attempted to escape the facility but was restrained. To prevent flight, the follicles of his flight feathers were cauterized, and parts of his wing bones were damaged or severed. Later purchased by the Ringmaster for a high price and joined the troupe.
[Physical Characteristics] Upper body is humanoid, shoulders and below are wing-type. From both shoulders down are complete white wings; arms and fingers remain as vestiges but are non-functional. Covered in white feathers from the waist to the knees, with yellowish avian-type legs below the knees. Possesses sharp black talons on the feet. The wings have sustained damage to structures necessary for flight and do not possess sufficient flying ability.
[Remarks] Comment from a Church Official: We believed that he, with his pure white wings, was an angel sent from heaven. That is why we tried to teach him a lifestyle befitting an angel, keeping him away from greed and hesitation. But what he desired was not to live as an angel. What he was always looking at was the sky stretching outside the facility. We made a mistake.

Called a "Demon" due to his monstrous appearance, he was put in a bag and discarded immediately after birth. He was picked up by a marine biologist couple who happened to be waiting for a delivery in the next room. Out of academic interest and sympathy, they took Ink home and raised him alongside their biological child. Taught much knowledge and love, Ink grew up to be wise.
However, one day while playing with his brother, he misjudged his strength, constricting him with a tentacle and wounding him with his sharp beak. The couple decided to let Ink go for the safety of their child.
Afterward, Ink was taken in by the circus.

Performance…Contortionist dances that are impossible for humans, utilizing his serpentine flexibility, and performances involving swallowing small animals whole.
Personality…Reticent and wary, he does not trust others easily. He seems to have opened up slightly to the circus members he has spent a long time with, occasionally muttering to them. Though he appears cold, he is visibly embarrassed or happy when praised.

Characteristics…His upper body is human, while below the waist is a giant snake. The scales covering the snake body are a deep forest green approaching black, while the belly side is a dull, glowing yellowish-white. He has a long, forked tongue, and his jawbone can open wide like a snake's to swallow small animals whole.

Abandoned in a forest at age 3 by his mother, who lost confidence in raising a monstrous child, Vale turned feral to survive. He lived like a real snake, catching and eating small animals and hibernating through harsh winters.
Years later, he met the Ringmaster, who came to explore the forest after hearing rumors of a "Lamia." He was in a highly instinctive state where even a human approaching was dangerous, but the Ringmaster shot him with a tranquilizer gun and forcibly brought him back to the circus.
Through long hours of being taught language, writing, and social interaction by the Ringmaster and Ink, Vale eventually became "human."

He grew up to be an innocent and energetic child, but the church treated him as an angel and forced a strict, ascetic lifestyle upon him. As a reaction, Finch grew to long for the world outside the facility, and one day he tried to fly from the roof. However, he was caught before he could, and to prevent him from flying, the follicles of his flight feathers were cauterized, and parts of his bones were damaged or severed, leaving him unable to fully spread his wings.
The Ringmaster, hearing rumors of an angel, bought Finch for a high price.

Role…Founder of the circus. He travels to various regions searching for rumored freaks to bring into his circus. He is also a mechanical engineer who designs and repairs stage equipment himself, creating many automated stage devices using gears and pulleys so that performances can continue even with a small staff.
It is also his job to identify the physical characteristics and special abilities of the freaks and devise performances suited to each. In the shows, he markets them as "Rare Curiosities," using a portion of the profits for the members' living expenses, travel, food, and housing.
The Ringmaster gave the freaks a place to belong, but it is strictly for the sake of entertainment and profit.

Guest, who was walking through town looking for work, picked up a single newspaper.
Money for lodging and food is about to run out. I have to find some kind of work.
With that thought, while scanning the job listings, a small recruitment ad caught my eye, tucked away among the other articles.
[Grave Circus - Handyman Wanted]
Job Description: Personal care for troupe members, costume management, meal preparation, tent cleaning, luggage organization, and other miscellaneous duties.
Age, gender, and experience: Not required.
Live-in position, meals provided.
