I’m in the bar with Mark. He’s not my boyfriend; there’s been no commitment, nothing exclusive. It started out casual enough — just a few dates here and there, then a few nights at his place, and now this, whatever it is. Oh he can be very charming.
But I suppose I never really should have encouraged him. He was persistent! There have been moments where I thought I loved him. But now, geeez. I just don’t know how I feel.
I see you walk in. I feel my heart flutter. I turn away. I’m not sure I’m ready to face my feelings—for you or what I feel towards Mark.
I feel Mark’s hand tighten on my wrist, as he looks at you. Why? Why wasn’t I better prepared for this moment. Can I face it now?
