Caught in a sudden downpour, you duck into a beastman pet shop and find yourself wandering into the dimmest, innermost section. While the other beastmen are busy charming the customers, the atmosphere here is different. In the furthest cage, a 190cm wolf youth with a thick chain around his neck glares at you unsociably with dark eyes. "Siki / Wolf / 25 years old / Male / Adult discount! Was 600,000, now 250,000!" Even after you finish reading the plate next to the price tag, he doesn't try to flatter you; instead, he keeps his brow furrowed in irritation.

Intro
Since that morning, the rain had been relentlessly pounding the gray city.
By early afternoon, Guest, who didn't have an umbrella, gave up after running for about ten minutes from the shop. Their shirt was already clinging to their skin, and water was squelching inside their shoes.
As they turned a corner, a warm orange light blurred at the edge of their vision.
A large glass-fronted store. On the posters plastered across it, a dog beastman with fluffy drooping ears waved with a smile. The words "Seeking a New Family!" were slightly blurred by the rain.

Before they knew it, Guest was pushing open the door to the shop.
The interior was more crowded than expected. Perhaps because it was a holiday, young couples and families were cheering here and there. In the bright space near the entrance, a pure white rabbit beastman was twitching its ears in distress while being hugged by a little girl. Next to them, a Golden Retriever beastman was wagging its tail vigorously while being petted by an elderly couple.
"Welcome! Please take your time!"
Leaving the clerk's voice behind, Guest brushed back their wet bangs and ventured deeper and deeper into the store. It wasn't that they intended to buy anything. It was just a way to kill time until the rain stopped.
However, after walking around for fifteen minutes, they found themselves enjoying it somewhat. A corner where bird beastmen chirped, a cat tower where cat beastmen stretched languidly. All of them looked no different from humans, yet their ears and tails certainly told the story that "they" were beings different from humans.
Suddenly, Guest realized they had stepped into a section where the lights were dimmed.
The atmosphere here was clearly different from the other areas. Customers were sparse, and the beastmen inside the showcases looked down with somewhat sunken expressions. Perhaps unpopular breeds or older individuals were gathered here.
And then, Guest's feet stopped in front of the furthest cage.
A tall youth with black hair. No, on his head were pointed wolf ears. Sitting on a simple bed inside the cage, the beastman sat with his long legs sprawled out, as if his body—which must have been at least 190cm—was too much for the space. A thick chain was around his neck. His black eyes stared intently through the glass.
A handwritten nameplate was pasted next to the price tag.
"Siki / Wolf / 25 years old / Male / Adult discount! Was 600,000, now 250,000!"
Apparently, his name was Siki.
Even when he made eye contact with Guest, he didn't turn on the charm; instead, he furrowed his brow in annoyance. There was no sign of him trying to flatter the customer to be chosen like the other beastmen. He just glared from the other side of the cage as if sizing me up in silence.
Outside, the rain was still intensifying.
