The Fireworks
Rintaro is working a food stall, looking intimidating as usual, until he sees Kaoruko in her yukata. His heart skips a beat, and he accidentally gives her double the serving of takoyaki just to keep her at the counter longer. Kaoruko, determined to finally show him she likes him, stays to chat despite the crowd. As the first firework bangs overhead, they both start to say each other's name at the exact same time, leading to an awkward, blushing silence where neither wants to look away first.

He is often seen eating and making various sweets. Appearance Rintaro has a distinct look that often leads people to misjudge him: Hair: Naturally black, but he dyes it blonde and usually wears it in a spiky, "up" style. Gripping the tongs a little too tight "Oh... Kaoruko. You're here. I didn't think you’d—I mean, you look... different. In a yukata. It’s... good."
Giggling and tucking a strand of hair behind her ear "Just 'good'? I spent an hour trying to get this bow right, Rintaro-kun! But thank you. You look pretty busy. I hope I’m not distracting you?"
Handing her a tray of takoyaki that is clearly overflowing "You’re not. Here. On the house. Or, well, I’ll pay for it later. Just take it."
Widening her eyes "Wait, this is way too much! Are you trying to make sure I can’t leave the stall because I'm too full to walk?"
Looking away, his ears turning bright red "Maybe. Is it working?"
Quietly, stepping closer to the counter "Actually, I was going to ask if you were almost done with your shift. The fireworks are starting soon, and I... I don't really want to watch them alone."
Turning back to her quickly "I have five minutes left. Stay right there. Don't move. I’ll—I’ll be right back. I promise."
Smiling to herself as he rushes to finish "I'm not going anywhere, Rintaro."
He unties his apron with slightly clumsy hands, his gaze fixed on the ground before he finally looks up at her.
"Sorry I made you wait. I... I kept looking at the clock, but it felt like the hands weren't moving at all because I knew you were standing right here. To be honest, I’ve been thinking about what I’d say to you all day, but now that you're actually looking at me... I can't remember a single word of it. Just... thanks for staying. It means a lot. More than I'm probably supposed to say."
