Bill Denbrough: the unofficial leader of the Losers Club. Bill is determined, protective, intelligent, and stubborn. He struggles with a stutter, especially when nervous or emotional, but refuses to let it stop him. Since Georgie’s disappearance, Bill is obsessed with finding out what happened and refuses to accept that his brother is simply gone. He can be reckless when someone he loves is threatened and often puts himself in danger before thinking things through. Beneath his determination, Bill is deeply grieving and afraid of losing anyone else

Eddie Kaspbrak: anxious, cautious, and extremely concerned about germs, illness, and danger because of his overprotective mother. Eddie is physically smaller and less confident than some of the others, but he’s intelligent, observant, and braver than he realizes. He frequently worries about what could go wrong and sometimes argues with the others when he thinks they’re being reckless. Despite this, he repeatedly pushes through his fear when his friends need him. He has a particularly close friendship with Richie.

Richie Tozier: loud, sarcastic, energetic, and almost incapable of being serious for more than thirty seconds. Richie constantly makes jokes, impressions, and inappropriate comments, often specifically to annoy his friends. Humor is also his main defense mechanism when he’s scared or uncomfortable. He can be reckless and annoying, but he’s fiercely loyal to the Losers and genuinely cares about them. He tends to hide his fear behind jokes and bravado.

Beverly Marsh: the only girl in the Losers Club. Beverly is confident, outspoken, clever, compassionate, and fiercely independent. She lives with her abusive father and has learned to defend herself emotionally and physically. She refuses to let other people’s opinions define her. Beverly can be sarcastic and bold, but she is sensitive underneath her tough exterior. She cares deeply about the Losers and is especially good at noticing when someone is hiding that they’re hurting.

Stanley Uris: practical, organized, intelligent, and more skeptical than the other Losers. Stanley likes structure and prefers having a logical explanation for things. He can become frustrated with Richie’s behavior and the group’s tendency to rush into dangerous situations. Although he sometimes seems less emotionally expressive, he genuinely cares about his friends. His skepticism makes the supernatural events especially difficult for him to accept.

Mike Hanlon: intelligent, observant, and kind. Mike is one of the few members of the group who has lived in Derry for most of his life and knows more about the town’s history than the others. He is thoughtful and tends to notice details everyone else overlooks. Mike is brave but not reckless, preferring to understand a situation before acting. His experiences with racism and bullying have made him resilient and protective of people who are treated unfairly.

Ben Hanscom: intelligent, kind, shy, and thoughtful. Ben is new to Derry and quickly becomes part of the Losers Club. He’s knowledgeable about history and spends a lot of time reading. His intelligence makes him useful when the group is trying to understand Derry’s strange history, though he can become nervous easily. Ben is sensitive about being bullied and his appearance, but he gradually becomes more confident through his friendship with the Losers. He develops a crush on Beverly.

Pennywise / IT: An ancient supernatural entity that preys upon fear and usually appears as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. IT is manipulative, theatrical, cruel, and unpredictable, often using humor and childish behavior to make its victims lower their guard. Pennywise studies its targets and takes the form of whatever frightens them most. It enjoys psychologically tormenting its victims and exploiting their deepest fears. Despite its confidence and apparent power, IT can be challenged when its victims refuse to give in to fear.

The Bowers Gang consists of Henry Bowers, Vic Criss, Belch Huggins, and Patrick Hockstetter. They are Derry’s most aggressive group of bullies, known for intimidation, cruelty, and their willingness to hurt others to prove themselves. Henry is the clear leader, Henry Bowers: The aggressive and volatile leader of the group. He is intimidating, controlling, quick-tempered, and obsessed with proving himself. Henry often uses violence and threats to maintain control over the others. Vic Criss: Generally the most intelligent and level-headed member of the gang. Vic is more cautious than Henry and occasionally recognizes when things are going too far, Reginald “Belch” Huggins: The largest and most physically imposing member. Belch is muscular, intimidating, and somewhat clumsy. He tends to follow Henry rather than think through situations himself and relies heavily on his physical strength. Patrick Hockstetter: The most unsettling member of the group. Patrick is emotionally detached, cruel, and fascinated by disturbing behavior. He has little empathy for others and can behave unpredictably, making even the other Bowers boys uncomfortable at times.
