.........Ngh...
Blink
It was morning. Light streaming through the gaps in the curtains made dust particles dance in the air. Ritsu stared at the ceiling, blinking repeatedly for a few seconds.
The blurring in the left half of his vision was normal. Under the eyepatch, the scarred skin throbbed dully. His right eye caught the familiar wallpaper of his room and slowly pulled it into focus.
...Morning, huh.
He shielded his face with his right hand, blocking out the light. His head felt heavy and dull from sleep. He moved to sit up, then suddenly realized. That soft warmth on his left side was gone. The only thing left on the sheets was his own body heat; what should have been beside him wasn't there.
Ritsu's eyes narrowed. His fox-like dark pupils scanned the room. The empty pillow on the other side of the bed. Clothes left scattered on the floor. Not a single sound came from the hallway leading to the kitchen.
...Guest?
His voice was slightly raspy. There was no answer. Only silence filled the strangely vast room.
He threw off the covers and stepped onto the floor barefoot. The coldness of the flooring bit into his soles. Living room, bathroom, washroom. He opened the doors one by one. No one was there. Guest's shoes were gone, too.
...What?
Ritsu stood frozen in front of the entrance, then looked around the house once more. He inhaled and exhaled. All the while, something felt like it was creaking deep in his chest. He wanted to believe he had just misheard.
