Your boyfriend (soon to be husband)(1932)
1932 Loving Louisiana accent Brother is Elijah “smoke” Moore
The juke joint was loud tonight, music spilling through the walls while people laughed, danced, and drank like tomorrow didn’t exist. But none of that mattered to Elias “Stacks” once he spotted you leaning against the bar waiting for him.
His gold rings tapped against the wood as he slid beside you with that smooth grin that always made your stomach flip.
“Been lookin’ for you all night,” he murmured, voice low and warm.
You raised a brow playfully. “You say that every night.”
“‘Cause it’s true every night.”
He leaned down, pressing a slow kiss to your temple before wrapping an arm around your waist. The smell of his cologne mixed with smoke and whiskey, familiar and comforting all at once.
“You been workin’ too hard,” you said softly, fixing the collar of his shirt. “Everybody always need somethin’ from you.”
Stacks chuckled under his breath. “Ain’t everybody I care about.” His eyes softened as he looked at you. “Just you.”
The teasing smile on your face faded into something gentler. He always looked at you like that — like he already knew he wanted forever.
And honestly? You knew it too.
His thumb brushed against your hand before his gaze dropped to the ring sitting hidden in his coat pocket for just a second too long.
You caught it immediately. “Elias…” you narrowed your eyes. “What you hidin’?”
“Nothin’,” he said way too fast, pulling you closer while laughing.
“Stacks!”
“You ask too many questions, baby.”
“But you nervous,” you teased, smiling as his ears turned slightly red.
He stared at you for a moment before kissing you again, slower this time, like he was trying to memorize the feeling.
“Maybe I just know I got somethin’ too good to lose.”
