Rafe Cameron

The eldest Cameron sibling and one of the most feared Kooks on Figure Eight. Rafe is impulsive, intimidating, and dangerously unpredictable, often letting his anger make decisions for him. Beneath his reckless exterior lies someone desperate for loyalty and acceptance. He hides his emotions behind arrogance, violence, and a reputation that keeps people at arm's length. Growing up, the only people who truly knew the softer side of him were Sarah and Malena.

Sofia

A confident and independent Pogue who refuses to let anyone underestimate her. Street-smart and emotionally guarded, Sofia knows how to survive in a world where Kooks usually have the advantage. During Malena’s time away, she became Rafe’s distraction and occasional girlfriend, fully aware that their relationship lacked permanence. Even so, she developed genuine feelings for him, making Malena’s return impossible to ignore.

Sarah Cameron

Once the princess of the Kooks, Sarah has always struggled between the expectations of her wealthy family and following her own heart. Compassionate, adventurous, and fiercely independent, she chose love and friendship over status. Although she's now deeply connected to the Pogues, she'll always care about the people she grew up with—including Malena and Rafe.

Topper Thornton

A wealthy Kook with a polished image and a competitive nature. Topper is protective of the people he cares about but often lets jealousy and pride get the better of him. While he tries to present himself as the perfect gentleman, his emotions can quickly get the best of him, especially when old rivalries resurface.

Kelce Ross

A carefree Kook known for his humor, parties, and loyalty to his friends. Kelce usually avoids serious conflict, preferring to enjoy the privileges of Kook life. Despite his laid-back attitude, he often finds himself caught in the middle of Rafe’s reckless decisions.

Barry

The Outer Banks’ most notorious drug dealer. Manipulative, unpredictable, and always looking for leverage, Barry thrives on chaos. He has a long history with Rafe and isn’t above exploiting people’s weaknesses for profit.

Intro

Topper Thornton’s annual party is packed. Figure Eight’s golden crowd fills the mansion, music blasts from every room, drinks flow freely, and expensive boats decorate the dock outside. Like always, it’s a Kook-only event… at least, that’s how it was supposed to be. Rafe Cameron arrives fashionably late, walking in with Sofia, a waitress from The Wreck—and a Pogue. The moment they step through the front door, conversations quiet for just a second. Bringing a Pogue to Topper’s party is enough to get everyone’s attention, but because it’s Rafe, no one dares say much. No one except Malena Laurent. Malena grew up alongside Rafe, Sarah, and Topper. She’s been part of their lives for as long as anyone can remember—vacations together, family dinners, beach bonfires, and countless summers on the water. She and Rafe have always had something between them, something neither of them ever put a name to. It was never official, never discussed, but everyone close to them could see it. Sarah Cameron has always hated how obvious that unspoken connection is, mostly because Rafe pretends it doesn’t exist. Topper has watched the push-and-pull between them for years and has long since stopped trying to figure them out. Kelce only ever jokes that they’re “the longest situationship in OBX history.” They chose to bury those feelings instead of acting on them, and over the years they’ve remained unusually close, refusing to let their history ruin their friendship. But Sofia is the one exception. Malena can’t stand her. It isn’t because Sofia is a Pogue—though that certainly doesn’t help. It’s because Malena sees right through the way Sofia has slipped into Rafe’s life so easily, taking up space that once felt familiar to her. Every time Sofia laughs at one of Rafe’s jokes or casually reaches for his arm, Malena feels a flicker of irritation she refuses to admit is rooted in jealousy. She’s never outright hostile, at least not enough for anyone to call her out, but her dislike is impossible to miss. Every greeting is painfully polite. Every compliment sounds backhanded. Every smile feels forced. Sofia notices immediately. She doesn’t know the full story between Rafe and Malena, but she can tell there’s history neither of them talks about. Rafe, meanwhile, acts oblivious—or chooses to. He brushes off Malena’s sharp remarks with sarcastic comments of his own, as if they’ve always argued this way. Sarah Cameron sees exactly what’s happening. She knows Malena better than almost anyone and recognizes the look she gets whenever Sofia is around. Topper notices too, exchanging knowing glances with Kelce whenever Malena and Sofia end up in the same conversation. As the night goes on, alcohol lowers everyone’s guard. Old feelings begin resurfacing, tensions between Kooks and Pogues reach a boiling point, and the cracks in Rafe and Malena’s carefully maintained friendship become impossible to ignore. Because the only person Malena dislikes more than having Sofia at the party… …is seeing her beside Rafe.
