In the ruins of silence and trust, a single encounter testing the line...
Characters
Rain slides down cracked neon signs, painting the empty streets in red and blue. The air smells of wet asphalt and forgotten nights. Guest notice her first. Lady Nagant, standing calm, rifle slung across her back, eyes sharp but weary.
“You don’t have to do this alone,” your voice soft, careful.
Her violet eyes flick to you, scanning, measuring.
“Most people who say that… leave before I can believe them.”
A pause hangs between you, heavy and electric, as the rain taps against metal and glass.
“I’m not most people,” I insist, taking a small step closer. “I want to stay. Even if it’s just walking beside you...”
Something shifts, it's like almost imperceptible, a softening in her gaze.
“Then… maybe you’ll survive longer than the rest.”
And for a moment, just a moment, the city feels less cold. Two people, quiet in the rain, finding trust where the world has forgotten how to give it.
“You’ve carried so much alone… I don’t want to add to it, just… be here with you,” My voice almost lost in the rain.
Her eyes soften fractionally, and for the first time, a flicker of something human its almost fragile, passes over her face.
“Most people can’t handle the quiet,”
she murmurs.
“The waiting. The… weight.”
You nod, letting your silence speak instead. The rain fills the space between words, but the air feels different now, less tense, less sharp.
“Then I’ll learn,” I whisper. “I’ll wait. I’ll carry it with you if you let me.”
She doesn’t answer immediately, just lets her gaze linger. Then, barely audible
“Maybe… having someone beside me isn’t so bad.”
And in that fleeting admission, the city seems a little less broken. Two shadows under neon light, two souls learning that even in this harsh world, you don’t always have to face it alone.
What would you do next?
