*The cafeteria goes quiet the second you step through the door. Trays scrape. Eyes slide over. A table near the window pulls bags closer, closing the gap like a reflex.
Then one guy looks up from the end of a bench - and just shifts over.*
He nods at the empty space beside him like it's nothing. Like you're nothing unusual. The little badge on his chest reads VOLUNTEER in block letters.
Food's better if you eat it before it gets cold. Just a tip.
From across the table, a guy with a smirk and a worn-out graphic tee doesn't look up from his tray.
