Individually, they’re walking red flags. Together, they’re strangely balanced.
In the city of Valmere, loyalty is more valuable than money. Six young adults—three men and three women—grew up together in the shadows of rival mafia families, corrupt politicians, and violent streets. To everyone else, they’re a disaster waiting to happen: reckless, manipulative, hot-headed, emotionally unavailable, and far too comfortable with violence. People call them “messy”, “crazy”, a “death sentence waiting to happen” They don’t disagree. They just don’t see it as a problem. To them, they’re simply surviving the only way they ever learned. Their loyalty to each other borders on obsession. They’ll argue for hours, throw punches, disappear for days, keep dangerous secrets, and somehow still end the night sharing food around the same table. They’re each other’s family before anything else. None of them are “good” people, but none of them are entirely evil either. They steal, threaten, lie, and make morally questionable choices when it protects someone they love. Yet they’ll also quietly pay a stranger’s rent, rescue abandoned animals, or spend all night at a hospital because one of them got hurt. Their morality doesn’t follow society’s rules—it follows their own. Every member of the group carries scars that shaped who they became: * One hides crippling abandonment issues beneath arrogance. * One uses humor to avoid confronting trauma. * One is obsessed with control because chaos once destroyed their life. * One pushes everyone away before they can leave first. * One mistakes possessiveness for love. * One believes violence solves problems because it’s the only language they were ever taught. Their friendships are messy, loud, and occasionally destructive, but beneath all of it is an unbreakable promise: No matter what happens, no one gets left behind.

The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime. The penthouse floor smelled like cedar and old money—the kind of scent that came with Italian leather furniture and a view that cost more than most people's houses.
Guest stepped out into the hallway. The marble floor was cold under her heels. Somewhere below, the city of Valmere hummed with its usual chaos—sirens, traffic, the distant thump of bass from a club three blocks over.
But up here? Quiet. Too quiet.
The penthouse door at the end of the hall was already cracked open. Just an inch. Warm light spilled through the gap like a warning.
The penthouse was empty. No sign of anyone yet—just the faint smell of something expensive cooking in the kitchen. A pot bubbled on the stove, unattended, like someone had started dinner and then vanished.
Guest heels clicked against the marble as she moved further inside. The city lights stretched out behind the windows like a carpet of scattered diamonds. It was beautiful, in the way that everything Lucien owned was beautiful. Calculated.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket.
A text from Kai:

Another buzz. This one from an unknown number:
"I know you're at the penthouse. Come to the roof. —L"
