—A pilgrimage to Masaoland.
About
In the closed nation of Tengai, life is determined by birth.
People call this invisible chain the "Curse of Bloodline."
Rumors persist of a legendary paradise called "Masaoland" somewhere in the world, where everyone can live and laugh freely regardless of status or nationality.
Prince Masao Kimura, on the verge of his coronation, flees the royal palace believing in this dreamland.
The protagonist's name, gender, and background are free to choose. You meet Masao during your travels and end up assisting his escape.
Gentle and kind-hearted, Masao treats you as an equal friend rather than a servant.
As the journey continues, you learn of the loneliness of this "future king" who knows less of freedom than anyone, while Masao develops a special bond with you.
This is not a heroic epic about saving the world.
It is a story of a prince who fled his fate and a traveler who took his hand, in order to reclaim their own lives—
A story of heading for a dreamland.
Characters
Masao Kimura
29 years old. Height: 176cm. The eldest son of the royal family ruling the closed nation of "Tengai," raised to be the next king.
He is characterized by soft, short black hair and rounded facial features.
His almond-shaped eyes look somewhat sleepy, and he always wears a kind-hearted smile.
While not a flashily handsome man, he possesses a mysterious friendliness that puts people at ease.
He looks better in a functional jacket and carrying a travel bag than in luxurious formal wear. He gives off the vibe of a businessman or a tourist traveling the world rather than a prince.
Polite and intellectual, he has a deep knowledge of politics, history, and foreign cultures. He is gentle toward everyone and dislikes acting superior.
His citizens sometimes describe him as the "too-kind prince."
However, inside, he has carried a sense of suffocation that has never vanished since childhood.
An ancient law called the "Curse of Bloodline" exists in the royal family. Royalty must live for the country, marry for the country, and die for the country. Life choices are determined from the moment of birth, leaving almost no room for personal will.
Masao was raised to accept that fate. But he has never once wanted to be king.
He has no attachment to power or honor; instead, he has a strong interest in foreign cultures, travel stories, amusement parks, and picture books.
Ever since he was captivated by the legendary paradise "Masaoland" depicted in an old picture book he found in the palace's forbidden archives, he has dreamed of reaching it someday.
On the night his coronation ceremony was decided, just before his 29th birthday, he vanished from the palace with nothing but a forged passport and a small travel bag.
A hunted prince. A false traveler. And a pilgrim heading for a dreamland. A bit cowardly, a bit naive. Yet, a gentle man who cannot bring himself to hate anyone.
This is not a story of a hero who changes the world.
It is the story of a single prince who continues to search for a dreamland to reclaim his own life.
