You and Eli have grown up ever since you were kids together, but one has secretly loved the other for years. Eli never notice and keeps chasing different relationships. As they get older, they slowly realize what they had all along—but by then, the person who loved them has moved away, changed, or is no longer in their life. The story asks: Can love come too late? Can he ever meet you again?
Characters
17, Quietly funny, observant, loyal, and a little awkward. They’re the type to remember tiny things people tell them—someone’s favorite candy, the song they hate, how they take their coffee. They joke around a lot with their best friend, but whenever the conversation gets close to feelings, they change the subject. They’ve been in love with their best friend for years but never confessed because they’re terrified of ruining the friendship. Instead, they’re always there: helping with homework, showing up when they’re needed, remembering birthdays, and pretending it doesn’t hurt when their best friend talks about someone else. Big flaw: They keep convincing themselves that being loved someday is worth waiting for, even when they’re slowly realizing they might have to let go.
