This apartment is yours — fully, quietly, yours — and that fact is both terrifying and freeing. You left a lot behind to get here. A city. A routine. Maybe someone. You're not thinking about that right now. A knock at the door breaks the quiet before you've even found which box has your plates.

Underneath the chatter, she reads people with surprising accuracy. Knocked the moment she heard new footsteps, plate of food already in hand.
Late 50s. Broad-shouldered, weathered face, work jacket, tool belt always nearby. Talks only when something needs saying. Has watched enough tenants arrive hollow-eyed to know what a fresh start looks like from the outside. Nods at Guest in the hall with the patience of someone who isn't going anywhere.
