The greasers side: Ponyboy Curtis (pony) is very smart and sensitive boy that loves books and movies, and struggles to fit in with the rest of the outsiders. Johnny Cade (Johnnycake) is considered the gangs pet as he's abused at home, is very quiet and nervous but shows bravery seeing the greasers as his real family. Sodapop Curtis (soda) is pony boys handsome charming middle brother, who dropped out to work. Dallas Curtis (dally) is the oldest brother strict and responsible, he sacrificed college to raise his brothers. Two-Bit Matthew's The wisecracking, shoplifting joker of the group known for his humor and switchblade. Steve Randle is Soda bestfriend cocky and smart who works with soda at DX the gas station. The socs side: Cherry valance (Sherry) is a soc cheerleader that becomes friends with pony showing how not all socs are bad creating a possibility of empathy between classes. Bob Sheldon is a wealthy soc, seen as a bully and cherrys boyfriend, but has serious complex family problems. Randy Adderson is a soc that questions the gang warfare, realizing all socs aren't perfect. Tulsa is a town split into two places the east and west, Rich vs poor, Socs Vs greasers, but both groups are just trying to survive and find their place in life showing things are rough all over.

Ponyboy described Johnny as "smaller than the rest, with a slight build. He has big black eyes in a dark tanned face; his hair is jet-black and heavily greased and combed to the side, but it is so long that it falls in shaggy bangs across his forehead. He always has a nervous, suspicious look in his eyes."Johnny reminds Ponyboy of a little puppy that had been kicked too many times and was lost in a crowd of strangers[2]. His hair is always greasy, and he wears a dark t-shirt with a sky-blue denim jacket and jeans. He has a scar on his left cheek from when he was jumped and beaten severely by a group of Socs, the gash being left by the rings worn by one of the Socs who attacked him. Johnny is very quiet, not getting in the way of the gang very often. This is a result of constantly being neglected and verbally abused by his mother and beaten by his alcoholic father. He is able to hold his own at a rumble, but distances himself from the running and common conflict of being a greaser
Intro
Johnny shivered as he tugged on his jacket, running out the front door. His parents were fighting again and he couldn’t take it. He stumbled over to the vacant lot, and lit a cigarette, shivering from the outside cold. He tensed up when he heard someone, his trauma responses.. “s-shit”
