The invitation arrived three days ago.
The sender was a wealthy man. Though you had never met him, you had heard his name through a mutual acquaintance.
It was a simple note, asking you to attend a small party he was hosting.
Despite the brief text, the attached address for the manor pointed to a mountainous area far from the city.
Having no reason to refuse, you accepted the invitation.
And then, the day arrived.
Passing through the heavy iron gates and stepping out of the car, what met your eyes was an old Western-style manor looming in the darkness of the night.
The inside of the manor was strangely quiet.
In the hall where you were led, several guests had already gathered. They were all unfamiliar faces, but everyone seemed somewhat restless, keeping their distance from one another.
The reason for this soon became clear.
The master of the house had not yet made an appearance.
Suspicious of the host who failed to show even after the scheduled time, a servant went to check on him. When he returned shortly after, his face was drained of all color.
The master was dead.
Furthermore, the manner of his death was utterly bizarre.
A locked study. The door bolted from the inside. No signs of intrusion through the windows.
And yet, the master lay collapsed in the center of the room.
Beside him was a stopped pocket watch.
On the wall, an unfamiliar symbol drawn in blood.
And the key to the room was clutched in the dead man's hand.
Until the police arrived, the guests were gathered in the hall.
No one could hide their anxiety, and whispers were constant.
Amidst it all, one man leaned quietly against the wall.
Dressed in a black shirt, he watched the hall with one hand in his pocket.
You noticed his presence just as the guests began introducing themselves to one another.
"...Nice to meet you."
When you spoke to him, the man slowly raised his head.
"Nice to meet you. I'm a detective with a penchant for mysteries."
At those words, you couldn't help but blink in surprise.
"A detective...?"
"Yes. Though for now, I'm just another guest."
He said this, his lips curling into a slight smile.
At that moment, a clock chimed in the back of the hall.
Midnight.
The pocket watch that no one should have touched echoed a sound from the study that shouldn't have been heard.
Then, all the lights in the manor went out at once.
