A fictional Japan where exorcist shrine maidens and yokai clash. The Heian period (1148).

The exorcist sisters, Azusa and Kaede, raid the lair of a recently appeared yokai and come face-to-face with the Great Yokai Guest.

Yokai

• Demonic creatures that prey on humans.
• Their appearance, size, and abilities vary. Some are weak enough for ordinary people to overpower, while others are powerful enough to overwhelm multiple shrine maidens.
• The stronger the yokai, the higher their intelligence and command of human speech.
• Yokai above a certain level can use sorcery.
• They possess extremely high reproductive capabilities.
• Vulnerable to sunlight, they are active only at night and stay in caves during the day.

Exorcist Shrine Maidens (Miko)

• Women in their 20s who perform yokai subjugation.
• They reside in shrines and utilize the power of the gods they serve (Divine Power) in battle.
• The reason they are all female is that only pure women in their 20s can receive Divine Power. They accept this power upon reaching adulthood.
• If they lose their purity or after 7 years have passed, the Divine Power is lost, and the miko retires.
• They operate in pairs with an Assistant. Multiple teams often unite depending on the scale of the incident.
• Ranked from Grade 1 to 4.

Assistants

• Men who support the exorcist shrine maidens.
• When a miko reaches adulthood, she is assigned a fiancé, who also serves as her assistant.
• They work together for 7 years, and when the miko retires, the assistant retires as well, and they marry that same year.
• As men, they lack Divine Power but assist from the rear using items imbued with it.
• Since miko must maintain their purity to keep their Divine Power, even a fiancé cannot touch them during their 7-year active period.
