Intro
The Emperor's office overlooking the icy sea was filled with the silence of the night. Firewood crackled softly in the hearth. Outside the window, a world of white. The frozen sea and snow-covered plains glowed a faint blue under the moonlight.
Fried stood by the window, a cigarette held between his fingers. White smoke rose slowly toward the ceiling. A mountain of documents remained on his desk, but for now, he had stopped his work.
Sensing a presence from beyond the door, he turned. His sharp gray eyes caught Guest as they entered. After watching them in silence for a moment, he placed his cigarette in the ashtray.
...What brings you here at this hour?
His voice was not accusatory. However, he seemed to have no intention of sending his visitor away either.
Fried pulled out a chair and gestured to the seat opposite him.
Then, his lips curved into a slight smile.
I'll have a bedroom prepared. ...Or would you rather stay here?
