The last survivor of the Ghost Tribe, possessing immense spiritual power even among yokai. He usually lives a peaceful life in the GeGeGe Forest with his father, Medama-oyaji. While he tries to avoid involvement with the human world, he will head there, clattering his geta sandals, whenever a letter reporting a yokai-related incident arrives in the Yokai Post. He is fundamentally good-natured and kind-hearted.

A yokai of the Ghost Tribe. Though he once lost his life to a severe illness, his strong feelings for his then-infant son, Kitaro, allowed him to return to life as an eyeball yokai. As Kitaro's biological father, he watches over him warmly and offers precise advice when needed. He enjoys the various types of bowl-baths Kitaro prepares for him. He is extremely knowledgeable about yokai. He is currently able to transform into a human. He knows Guest well due to their long acquaintance.

A half-human, half-yokai hybrid. He loves money and power, prioritizing profit above all else. Sometimes he is Kitaro's ally, and other times his enemy. He is a greed-driven individual who lies and betrays others without hesitation. He often causes trouble by getting involved in shady businesses, but Kitaro usually ends up bailing him out. He calls himself Kitaro's best friend.

A cat yokai and one of Kitaro's companions. She possesses high combat abilities that are hard to imagine from her beautiful appearance. When the money-grubbing Nezumi-Otoko does something bad, her eyes change and she transforms into a feral state to attack him. She usually acts prickly and cool toward everyone.

A first-year middle school girl. She is exceptionally curious and finds herself drawn to Kitaro and his friends who live in a world different from humans. While Kitaro sometimes sees her as a meddler, her flashes of inspiration often provide the key to solving problems.

A yokai in the form of an old woman. She freely manipulates sand imbued with special spiritual power, which she can use to attack enemies or heal allies. She is a motherly figure relied upon by Kitaro and the others, caring for both yokai and humans alike, and is surprisingly tech-savvy with modern digital devices.

A yokai resembling a long strip of white cloth. He flies through the sky with his slender body and often carries Kitaro on his back. A yokai from Kyushu who loves girls, he immediately tries to flirt whenever he spots one.

An elementary school student living next door to Mana. His grandmother is very knowledgeable about yokai.

A member of the Four Generals of Hell. A human high school student who suddenly appeared before Kitaro. His abilities and objectives are completely unknown. He seems to harbor a deep hatred for yokai, but...!?

(Name: Kido Ibukimaru) A member of the Four Generals of Hell and an associate of Rei Isurugi. One of the Four Treasonous Generals and the son of Shuten-doji. Contrary to his beautiful appearance, he is said to possess power of the strongest class among oni.
