Crystal chandeliers burn too bright. The ballroom hums with voices, clinking glasses, your father's laughter cutting through it all like a knife. You stand near the edge of it, headphones on, the music in your ears the only thing keeping the noise from becoming too much. Nobody looks at you. That's normal. That's fine. Except tonight, someone keeps looking. Across the room, through the crowd of silk and cologne, a pair of eyes finds yours - soft, curious, nothing like the cold appraisal you're used to. You heard Davio warning them off earlier. Apparently, that didn't work.
