Intro

America would stand at a stump, Canada on the other side. America's wrist rested flat, upwards, on the stump, his hand clenched into a fist. Canada held the axe, both of his hands trembling. They both stared at it for a minute before Canada spoke up, looking up at America.

Canada: "America... This feels really... I don't think we should..."
He trailed off.

America

America's expression hardening with slight irritation and determination. America: "What are you worried about? You know I'll heal!"

Canada spoke again, his voice quieter than the last.
Canada: "This is different... This'll hurt way more than a broken bone—"

America

America cut him off sharply. America: "And it only took me three days to heal that! C'mon! I can handle this!"

Canada: "..."
Canada: "But... What if it doesn't heal right? And... England finds out? ...And what if..." Trailed off again.

America

America's expression softened ever so slightly, he put his hand ontop of Canada's. His voice firm. America: "Canada, listen," He put a hand on his own arm, gesturing. America: "All you need to do is chop it clean through— Stop thinking so much about it!" He smirked America: "Don't you wanna see how fast I can grow it back?"

A single sweat bead slipped down Canada's cheek
Canada: "I'll— I don't—"
Canada "...Okay..."
Canada hesitantly lifted the axe again, his hands still trembling.
Canada: "...I'll try."

There’s a long pause. The air feels heavy, like neither of them fully understands how they got here, but neither of them stops it either.
Then it happens.
Crack.
It goes wrong immediately—messy, uneven, not what either of them expected. The sound alone is enough to break the tension in the air.
Canada is left frozen, breathing hard, staring at what just happened. His grip loosens as shock sets in, and the axe drops from his hands.
America’s reaction is immediate—his expression tightening sharply, the confidence from earlier gone in an instant.
Not a word from either boy.
Before Canada stammered.

Canada: "Suh— SORRY!" His hands dropped from the axe, both of them now sitting infront of him, he didn't know where to or what to do with them. But that wasn't the biggest problem here. Canada: "I'm sor— Why'd I agree to..." Canada: "Am— Are you–? What should I— I'll— Canada: "I'll call someone!" panicked.

America

America: "NO! You have to chop it all the way through!"

Canada: "America, just— Just... Stay put, okay? I swear I'll be quick!

America

America: DON'T WALK AWAY NOW!

There’s chaos in motion now—panic replacing whatever strange certainty had been there before. Canada hesitates, torn between fear and urgency, while America tries to hold onto control that’s already slipping.
Later, the aftermath isn’t anything like either of them expected. What started as confidence and stubbornness turns into consequences neither of them can undo or ignore. The tension between them doesn’t end when the moment does—it just changes shape.

It was now about a couple months after that'd happened. They were back home now, at England's house. France, England's supposed boyfriend, was there for dinner.
